About

Deviant burials in Prehistory and Antiquity is a one-and-a-half-day workshop aimed at exploring the current available evidence and discussing the complexities involved when dealing with non-normative burials in the archaeological record.

Held at All Souls College, Oxford, on 25-26 March 2025, the workshop will convene a group of leading experts from Western Europe who are using different methodological (e.g., archaeological, osteological, isotopic and/or genetic) and interpretative approaches to address the incidence and rationale of deviant burials and to try to reconstruct the identity of those included in them.

This enlightening and ground-breaking forum will bring the opportunity to promote a thought-provoking discussion that will focus on the challenges, prospects and new potential lines of inquiry that are worth exploring in the future.
